Established on May 25, 2020, Exodus T.W.O (The Way Out) is a non-profit organization under section 501(c) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Our name is inspired by the biblical account from the Book of Exodus, drawing a parallel between the plights of ancient Israelites and individuals grappling with mental illness in the modern world.
In the biblical story of Exodus, the Israelites suffered under the harsh rule of a new Egyptian Pharaoh who didn’t recognize their value or understand their unique strength. Despite the hard bondage, their perseverance and resilience led them to multiply, inciting fear among the Egyptians. When the plan to suppress their growth failed, the king resorted to ordering the killing of all male babies. However, faith and courage prevailed as the mother of Moses sought a way out. She hid her son in a basket set to float in a river, where the Pharaoh’s daughter found him, leading to his eventual liberation of the Israelites.
Similarly, many people suffering from mental illness endure hardships, are subjected to social stigma, and often struggle in silence. Like the Israelites, these individuals are resilient, strong, and full of untapped potential. However, like the King of Egypt, society often overlooks this potential. That’s where Exodus T.W.O steps in, offering a way out from the constraints and difficulties caused by mental illness.
At Exodus T.W.O, we are committed to supporting individuals with mental illness and their families. We believe in treating mental illness with the same urgency and compassion as any other health condition, advocating for immediate support following diagnosis. We firmly believe that there should be a way out, a path towards health and well-being for everyone dealing with mental health issues.
Our services include timely counseling, advocacy within the legal system, and assistance with re-integrating into the workforce. We collaborate closely with courts and probation offices to expedite evaluations for individuals facing incarceration, promoting fair treatment and appropriate care within detention facilities.
Moreover, we champion employment opportunities for those recovering from mental health issues, working alongside employers to create inclusive workplaces. As a single point of contact for our members, we strive to provide a comprehensive array of resources to help them regain their footing in society.
We strongly believe that incarcerating mentally ill patients alongside criminals exacerbates their condition and hinders their recovery. Our mission is to ensure that these individuals are properly assessed and separated from the general inmate population, preventing unnecessary distress and punishment. It’s imperative to reduce the waiting time for these evaluations, as prolonged stress can exacerbate mental health conditions.
At Exodus T.W.O, we stand against the idea of punishment for those in need of help. Instead, we seek to uplift, support, and provide hope, just as Moses’ mother did for him. Through our services, we aim to alleviate the challenges faced by individuals with mental health issues, offering a way out, and a way forward, in their journey towards mental well-being.
